Laugh So Hard Your Guts Hurt

October 2006

Boring day? These hilarious memories will put a smile on your face and take you back to your days as an undergrad. Relive your wild days and share your memories with us here.

What is the memory that makes you laugh hardest today?

“Participating in a 'Rowbottom' in Spring of 1952. My picture, duking it out with one of Philadelphia's finest, appeared on the front page of the Inquirer and me in Dean Henry's office. The policeman had ripped my jacket off. Fortunately, it belonged to my roommate, Hap Merriman, and had his name in it. We both beat the rap.” - John Hill Porter, ’55

“Fiji Island Parties, especially the one with Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts.” - David John Landis, Sr., ’66

“Fiji Island every year.” - Stephen J. Gilhooly, ’74

“Sean Dowling talking to a plant in Wizards on a Wednesday at 4 PM.” - Michael Kehoe, ’00

"I have vivid memories of the 1956 "rowbottom" when there was a blockade in front of the house and the police stormed the house looking for the "culprits"! For the first time in my life I was totally innocent as I was on the second floor house phone talking to one of our "finest" coeds and along with some others ran up into the attic to hide but the police arrested us, hand cupped us, put us in a paddy wagon, booked us and put us in Jail for 24 hours. 13 of us were in the cell and Peter Dimoneo  kick over the commode and we had to stand in water the entire night. Post script was that Ted Rheimer and I ended up on the front page of the Philadelphia Inquirer hand cuffed and being led to the paddy wagon." - Peter T. Glading, '59

"Fiji's at the Ryder Cup 2006, The K Club, Dublin Ireland" - Bill Randall, '88

Describe the best party

“Late nights in the Big Nasty, AKA the president's room. Parties there always began with kicking the door down and then making shots with bong water until 5 in the morning.” - Michael Kehoe, ’00

"*The last Fiji Island: 1998*
Paul Burg, over-served with Mad Dog 20/20, he could not remember any of the night. Having lost out on these precious hours, and agitated in only a way Paul can be, retribution was crucial. At 8am, the Sunday after the Island party, Paul woke up all of 3619 Locust and commenced morning to midnight beer-pong with the leftover cases from the party. Later that day, Mr. Michael Kehoe and Mr. Mark Kleinknecht managed to get tossed from every bar on and around campus. Best part of the story was the humble apology that Mark and Mike had to give to Smokey Joe's manager, Joe Ryan, in order to ever be allowed in Smoke's again. Classic Phi Gam!" - Jason Roberts,'99

Describe your favorite/best road trip

“Going to NYC to play Columbia and staying at the Plaza.” - John Hill Porter, ’55

"Greg Jannetta ('88) caught up with Bill Randall ('88) and friends for a week
of golf in Belfast and Dublin for the Ryder Cup.  The boys played a few warm
up rounds before spending 3 days at The K Club watching the Americans giving
it their shot. Most of the warm up was drinking Guinness in preparation for
the big nights out in Dublin." - Bill Randall, '88
