Remember When?
Thanks to “Jersey” Joe Gillette ‘86 for submitting this great memory...

He writes, "This is a no-brainer and I would be shocked if this wasn’t already submitted by one of the other 17-member pledge class from the spring of 1983.  While there are hundreds of stories, this one takes the cake in my book.

We were called over to the house by one of the brothers for an emergency meeting and suffice it to say, our Pledge President, Dave “Bjorkster” Bjork ‘84, had a hard time getting all of us congregated in front of the house in a timely manner.  I am not sure which brother(s) dressed us down for being late, but if memory serves me correctly, it was Doug “Luper” Pearl ’85 and Zack “Zekey kid” Colburn ’84.  After being turned away from the house, we all began to walk dejectedly up Locust Walk when one of our pledge mates, Steve “Kreeks” Kryger ’86, came up with the brilliant idea of standing outside the house and singing “Show me a Scotsman” to prove our loyalty to the brotherhood.  Several other pledge brothers (Ron “Smally” Smolokoff ’86 and Ted “Schluggo” Schlein ’86) thought this was a really stupid idea and the larger guys from our class agreed and decided to do something about it.  Mike “McGoo” McGarry ’86, Frank “Franko” Salvatore ’85, Steve “Piz” Pisano ’86 and Scott “Ernie” Ernst ’86, who were all linemen on the football team, picked him up (any one of them would have and could have done it on their own) and carried Kreeks away from the house.   To their dismay, Kreeks continued to belt out the Fiji song as he was carried up Locust Walk but he abruptly stopped when they stuffed him in a dumpster along the way.  Funny times, man, funny times.

Sorry no photos as no one had cell phone cameras back in the day but the image is etched in the mind of all of us who were there."

Support the Annual Fund
For many of us, the bonds we formed at Phi Gam grew into connections that make life more meaningful today. Many of us have no closer friends than those we made back then.  Some of us got first job or reference from a brother, others have made great business connections through brothers. Some were our groomsmen or godfathers to our kids.  Add to that the lessons we learned as a result of our association with the fraternity.  These have helped to lay a foundation for the successes we have experienced in our personal and professional careers.

Remember that our annual fund relies on support from our graduate brotherhood, and every donor makes a big difference. We can’t continue our program without you.
